Launched in 2015 in New York City, sonyeo[n] began by embracing the idea of gender neutrality and focused on creating original items that incorporate the designer’s Korean background. After his formal education and training in Korea, he moved to Milan and completed his Master's Degree in Fashion Design at the Insitituto Marangoni. He then spent several years designing in a number of well-established studios in Milan, including Luciano Soprani, as well as in Copenhagen.

To further develop his business acumen and better understand the US market, he then relocated to New York and spent nearly 10 years in a variety of contemporary fashion companies. The fast-paced, commercial-driven market of New York highlighted an opening for authentic artisan items that focus on the true value of each piece with very personal connections rooted in nostalgia.

Focusing on each object, and based on his own childhood memories, he modernizes each item for today with a hint of whimsical humor. Embracing sustainable principles, he sources eco-friendly materials from then finest and ethical purveyors to create timeless pieces. All of our items are hand-cut and meticulously assembled in our studio or high-quality, manual production lines based in New York. This ensures each item is of the finest quality and creates a special personal connection with its wearer.
